Antique Toile

A fabulous original Chateau curtain. Amazing French Toile print, so beautiful! This piece is from the late 1890s to early 1900s. It was originally a portière curtain. Along the top are the remains of where the curtain was attached. All twelve ties are present, but we used clips for the photograph. The right-hand side has lovely raspberry and white 2″ twisted fringe.

It is made of 2 loom widths of 32″ each sewn together and the central seam is one of those flat hand sewn ones with tiny stitches. Could be divided into 2 curtains. It measures approx 64″W x 98″L.

This fabric/curtain is in great as-found condition. There are a couple of small holes scattered about, and a couple of small marks. At the top is a little patch of sun fading. This fabric is not without signs of time, slightly softened with age, but is very sturdy, and has a lovely patina. The curtain is unlined and in clean condition, straight from a Chateau!
