• The Colours of Fall

    There is a certain warmth to the colours of Fall this year. An apology for that early frost. The pinks and corals are popping out everywhere, and white pumpkins are replacing traditional orange.  

  • Last of the Summer Flowers

    It’s August, and it is time to reflect on the joy and pleasure that flowers give us all. I love to watch the hummingbirds and butterflies fly from blossom to blossom anointing each one with their presence.

  • Spring Cleaning

    As we say goodbye to winter, and usher in Spring, it’s the perfect time to clean and organize and perhaps purge as Mr Morris suggests! One of our favourite ways to start, is to banish all heavy drapes and dark pillows to the linen closet, and hang simple light reflecting fabrics and lace at the windows. Bring wildflowers indoors, and force branches of flowering trees by simply placing in water filled vases. Within a week you will have flowering blooms!…

  • Lacy Summer Elderflower Cordial

    Mid to late July is when the beautiful Elderflower shows her lacy skirts, and I fill a basket with these blossoms, steep them in a honey and lemon water, reap the benefits (good for the sinuses), and reward my family with a bubbly Prosecco cocktail. Simply fill a champagne glass with ice; pour cordial over top, and add Prosecco; stir gently to combine, garnish with raspberries (in season), and thin sliced lemon.     As I look through the pictures of my summer, I see lace everywhere! The world is so abundant with beauty… Someone once told me that if you are looking for old lace, then you must go to ancient fishing villages, as that is where the netting began!
